Interview with Gianni Delaere
"This tattoo is truly the missing part of me."
A tattoo begins with dreams. And that was also the case for Gianni. Even at twelve years old, he knew he wanted one someday, just like his parents. But just what it should be remained vague for a long time. Until two years ago. His dream of discovering Africa and its wild treasure of animals inspired the design of his leg sleeve. "It's a work in progress that started with an impressive lion head. It has already turned out so beautifully, which makes me look forward to the rest," Gianni said.
About Gianni
Gianni Delaere (26) is a construction equipment salesman, but also has a fiery mission as a volunteer firefighter. This fanned a flame in him, as he would like to make it his main job. For this reason, among others, sports are an important part of his life. After twenty years of soccer, you can now find him in the gym or on his racing bike.
Stress-free first appointment
"This is my very first tattoo, but I didn't really stress about it. My brother and parents also have tattoos, so I already saw it on them. Because I wanted quite a big tattoo - it will be a full leg sleeve - I did look for the very best in the business. My brother had been to Inksane's and he was very satisfied with their work, so I decided to ask them as well. I first emailed them my idea and Anke quickly recommended three or four artists. That was a pleasant surprise, because I didn't know there was such a wide range of artists at Inksane. A real luxury to be able to choose. I looked at the work of the various artists online and then made an appointment to meet with Inksane. That gave me the necessary confidence to tie the knot."
No adjustment is too much
"I ended up choosing Magnus Oleg because he has a very realistic style. Exactly what I had in mind. It turned out to be a hit, because he was immediately on board with my story and wishes. It had to look natural and I didn't want a black spot on my leg, so I wanted my skin to show through. Furthermore, I gave him complete freedom in the elaboration of the design. And for that he really went all out: first he made a provisional print on my leg, then we looked together at how it would appear when I did certain movements. Initially the drawing was distorted, but he adjusted it in such a way that in the end that was no longer the case. Really punishing that he succeeded in that, because that requires a lot of graphic and artistic insight."
Jungle fever
"The lion's head is now on it after two long sessions, which went fine. And I think that result is already amazingly good. So I'm enormously looking forward to the rest: there will be many more animals like a leopard, an elephant, a monkey ... beautifully worked out in a wild jungle atmosphere. Meanwhile, I am already getting lots of compliments on the first part jungle fever shining on my leg. My brother, sisters and parents are huge fans, and I also get rave reviews from colleagues and friends at the gym. I'm really happy with it myself, because I think it really suits me. In fact, this was the missing part of me."
