HELIX PIERCING
Piercings in the ear are no longer a juvenile sin.
Many adults choose a curated ear, which literally means a organized ear. The helix piercing then becomes one of your showpieces.Â
When you're satisfied with your number of piercings in the ear - which you've had pierced over time - you then put together a set of gems with your piercer that complement each other, and there you have the end result: your very own curated ear.
What is a helix?
Helix means "spiral" or "curvature," referring to the upper edge of your ear. So the helix is located above your earlobe, always in the rounded part of your cartilage.Â
With the helix, you have many choices. Is one insufficient? Then go for a double helix.Â
A new trend is the forward helix: this piercing is located at the end of the curve, against your face.Â
Even a flat helix is possible: it does not go through the outer edge of your ear, but is pierced under that edge in the cartilage, on the large piece between the inner and outer curvature.Â
Below the drawing of the ear you can see on the first slide a double helix, on the second slide a flat helix and on last slide a forward helix.
How does it work?Â
Our first rule is: looking at placement together.
Do you want your helix piercing More forward or would you prefer something lower? Don't be afraid to say so.Â
The exact location is marked on your ear, and then the sharp piercing needle is passed linearly through your cartilage.Â
Finally, the gem inserted into your new piercing.Â
How do I care for my new helix piercing?
Patience is a virtue, as piercings in cartilage heal quite slowly.
Count on 6 to 8 months Before your piercing is completely healed.Â
What not to do:
- Not fiddling, twisting, pulling, pushing on your new piercing.Â
- Don't sleep on your ear. This creates additional pressure.
- Do not use alcohol.Â
- Avoid swimming, sauna, tanning bed and taking a long bath for 4 to 6 weeks. During these activities, your blood vessels expand. There will be natural swelling after piercing. Therefore, a longer rod will be inserted in the beginning. The rod may become too short if you do any of these activities.Â
What to do:
- Wash your hands before touching the piercing.Â
- Clean your piercing up to 2 times a day with a saline solution. We recommend Neilmed Piercing Aftercare.
- If you do not have a saline solution, then you can clean the piercing under flowing lukewarm water up to 2 times a day.
- Return after 6 to 8 weeks to downsize. Then we will insert a shorter rod into your gem.Â

"The wisest advice I can give is: follow the aftercare properly, come back on time for your downsize and most of all, enjoy your new shiny piercing!"
Help!
My piercing is swollen.
This is completely normal because your body is reacting to the "trauma.Â
That's why you start with a longer rod in your piercing. When the swelling goes down, return to downsize.
My piercing itches.Â
