The nose piercing is one of the oldest piercings in the world. In Hinduism, every woman has a piercing through her left nostril: this is said to be good for her fertility.
Due to punk culture, the nose piercing got a bad reputation, but currently it is more popular again than ever.

Different types of nose piercings
There are more nose piercings than you might think. In this blog post, we will discuss the piercings that are pierced along the outside of your nose.

Nostril
The most famous nose piercing, which is pierced through your nostril.
High nostril
This piercing also goes through your nostril, but just a little higher than the nostril piercing. This way you can have several piercings on top of each other.
Austin bar
This piercing is not familiar to most. The austin bar is pierced horizontally through the tip of your nose. So you will see the gem along both sides.
Bridge
This piercing also goes only through the skin, and not the cartilage. This piercing sits horizontally through the bridge of the nose, approximately at the level of your eyes.
Nasallang
Probably the most extreme nose piercing: it goes through both nostrils as well as the septum. It looks like a nostril in each nostril plus a septum piercing. If you ask me: option two sounds less painful.
Rhino
The rhino piercing is probably one of the least common nose piercings. This is because a rhino piercing goes vertically through the tip of the nose. For the client, this is not very painful, but the piercer must be in a good position to pierce correctly.
Vertical bridge/ third eye
This piercing is the opposite of the bridge piercing. A vertical bridge goes vertically through the bridge of the nose. Depending on your anatomy, the top piece of the gem will be between your eyebrows or in your forehead.

Nose piercing in men
As mentioned at the beginning: the nose piercing - and mainly the nostril piercing - is the most popular piercing with the Inksane team.
It's not just the women here who walk around with a jewelry in their noses; most of the men also have a nostril piercing.
How do I care for my nose piercing?
This depends from person to person, but you can count on 6 to 9 months before your nose piercing is completely healed.
After about ten weeks, you may switch from a rod to a ring (if you would like to).
What not to do:
- Not fiddling, twisting, pulling, pushing on your new piercing.
- Do not use alcohol.
- Avoid swimming, sauna, tanning bed and taking a long bath for 4 to 6 weeks. During these activities, your blood vessels expand. There will already be natural swelling after piercing. Therefore, a longer rod will be inserted in the beginning. The rod may become too short if you do any of these activities.
What to do:
- Wash your hands before touching the piercing.
- Clean your piercing up to 2 times a day with a saline solution. We recommend Neilmed Piercing Aftercare.
- If you do not have a saline solution, then you can clean the piercing under flowing lukewarm water up to 2 times a day.
- Return after 6 to 8 weeks to downsize. Then we insert a shorter rod into your gem.

My piercing is swollen.
This is completely normal because your body is reacting to the new piercing.
That's why you start with a longer rod in your piercing. When the swelling goes down, return to downsize. It is incredibly important to downsize: if you don't, your piercing may grow crooked.
If you have too much swelling, it's best to go for a check-up drop by.
